Saturday
Saturday was expected to stay mostly dry, with highs in the mid 40s and just a slight chance of drizzle until the evening. To maximize our chances of racing on Sunday, we scheduled middle school races for the afternoon.
But Mother Nature had other plans. As the rain picked up throughout the day, our course crew worked tirelessly—setting and resetting the course to keep it as safe as possible. Teams lit up camp fires and stayed dry under their tents. GRiT activities and Adventure carried on. We were still set on racing.
Then, 30 minutes before staging, thunder rolled in, and lightning was detected within 10 miles—triggering an automatic 30-minute delay. Just 15 minutes later, another strike reset the clock. With rain still falling, daylight fading, and safety as our top priority, we made the tough call to cancel the middle school race and see what Sunday might bring.

Gear Swap
The community spirit was on full display as the Student Advisory Cabinet hosted a gear swap again for this race. We also put our donated Specialized gear to good use and provided teams with brand new rain jackets and vests completely FREE.
GRiT
While we had to cancel the GRiT ride in order to fit in the afternoon middle school racing, our GRiT activity tent was bustling with students making bracelets.

Student Advisory Cabinet
The Texas Director’s Student Advisory Cabinet is a collaborative, engaged and diverse group of current student athletes who are ready to take on a leadership role and advise league leadership on the students’ perspective.
We spent time out of the cold and wet conditions at Stone Co Climbing Saturday evening for some team building and fun!
Sunday
Sundays are usually all about racing. This weekend, Sunday was all about surviving the muck and just making it to the finish line! The trails started off wet enough to not stick to bikes, but by the 2nd and 3rd lap of Varsity and JV1, the mud turned to peanut butter. JV2 took off starting with 2 laps, but half way through the race it was decided that all races would be reduced to single lap races.
For the most part, students seemed to fully enjoy the challenge. Even if it meant running their bike across the finish line. That said, please be sure to have your bike properly disassembled and cleaned!

Special Shout Out
A special shout out goes to the College Station mountain bike team for their efforts before and during the race this weekend. They were constantly adding chicken wire to bridges, rerouting the course around mucky spots, and are helping to coordinate the repair of their local trails.
