Needs-based Scholarships are available
We are aware of the financial burden which youth sports can have on a family and do not want finances to be a barrier to joining our community. Most local teams offer scholarships and you should check with your Team Director first. If they do not have any available, the league has a scholarship fund and we will continue offering scholarships thanks to our amazing sponsors and individual donors. Our scholarship process is simple and confidential.
Fee structure change
TX NICA has grown significantly since its inception and now offers student-athletes a truly comprehensive mountain biking experience that is much more than just the race series.
Relying largely on individual race-event registrations was not a sustainable funding model to support long term growth of the organization. TX NICA leadership, in consultation with the advisory board, team head coaches, and NICA, determined that a program fee more accurately reflected the value of TX NICA programming for non-racers and racers alike. The change ensures the long-term success of the league and a more stable and predictable funding model for all stakeholders. In addition, one fee will reduce the administrative burden on the league, team leadership, and families. Many other NICA state leagues have already moved to a comparable price and similar fee model, or are in the process of doing so.
Program fee and participation with a local team
Local NICA teams operate under the jurisdiction of NICA and TX NICA and get their insurance, etc., from being part of the state and national organization. Athletes on local teams must be fully current with all state and national league registrations to participate.
LATE REGISTRATIONS
TX NICA keeps registration open through the duration of the season as many new families learn about our programs throughout the season. Fees for late registrants will be prorated as follows:
Registration after February 24, 2025 will be $275.
Registration after March 10, 2025 will be $225.
Try it before you buy it!
Many local teams offer pre-season “Try it” events for prospective athletes and parents. Also, at the local team’s discretion, athletes may be able to participate in one actual team practice. Either option requires a parent or guardian to sign an insurance waiver. Due to the requirements of our national insurance plan, this waiver can only be used on one occasion. To continue after that, the student must have her/his national and league registration current.

Refunds
We realize that mountain biking is a new sport for many, and parents may be concerned that their child may not stick with it. The Texas Interscholastic Cycling League strives to put on world-class events and provide all of our student-athletes, coaches, and volunteers with the best resources possible at practices throughout the season. With this goal in mind, we make a financial investment to cover insurance, training, and planning activities. Those expenses are continuously incurred. In order to maintain the sustainability of the League, it is necessary we implement a NO REFUND policy with limited exceptions only for illness, injury, or family emergencies.
Refunds for injured athletes
The Texas League fee may be partially refundable for season-ending illnesses, injuries, or family emergencies that prohibit athletes from participating in practices and races. A doctor’s note must be provided for illness or injuey. There is a minimum $100 non-refundable fee to cover NICA fees, insurance, and registration. Refunds cannot be made after the second race. League leadership will review refund requests and make a determination.
